Meet “Everyman” Todd Robertson

Held each year on July 10 to symbolize the seven out of top 10 deaths (7/10) in the U.S. that are caused by chronic disease, most of which are preventable, per the CDC, the event’s goal is to raise awareness about the many lifestyle changes that can be made to stop disease before it strikes, saving precious research funds for conditions that cannot otherwise be prevented. Week 1: Connect With Your Feelings—and Others

Robertson, a widower, confesses that he didn’t take his blood clotting disorder all that seriously until he had his first colonoscopy in 2017, when he was mistakenly instructed to go off his medication for a few days prior to the routine procedure. “Three days later I had my first, and up until this point only, pulmonary embolism,” he says. “It went through my heart and into my lung. I thought, ‘Wow, this is an aggressive disorder. I could have died.’ It woke me up.” The experience, he says, “made me the activist I am now.”
